Product Description:

Heywood-Wakefield’s signature M 154 A “Dog Biscuit” Dining Chair is a mid-century modern classic, widely considered one of the most recognizable chairs in the world. It’s also been named second-most comfortable dining chair in America (following one that costs more than twice as much).

The prototype for this stylish seat came from famed New York designer Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky in 1931.  After being refined by the company’s renowned post-WWII designer W. Joseph Carr, the chair found instant popularity when it was released in 1950.

The unique ergonomic back rest gives this dining chair its “Dog Biscuit” nickname. The gentle curves throughout the piece give it an elegant air that makes it perfectly suited to any entertaining needs. At the same time, its simplicity keeps it from ever appearing too formal for any home’s dining room.

Shown here in our Amber finish and Nile Blue fabric, the solid Northern Yellow Birch adds natural beauty to its space, and the construction is as sturdy as can be. The high-quality seat cushion won’t sag or lose its shape, either.

Dimensions:

18″ W x 16″ D
17 3/4″ H (seat frame), 20″ H (top of uncompressed cushion)
32″ H (back)

  • Two centuries of experience

We started in a barn in Gardner, MA in 1826. 199 years later, we're still building furniture in Massachusetts. From inventing machines and techniques that changed the industry in the 19th century to making great modern design accessible in the 20th, Heywood-Wakefield has helped write the story of furniture making in America.

  • Quality that lasts generations

There's a reason so much vintage Heywood-Wakefield furniture is still around. Our materials, craft and engineering are of the highest level. Our pieces are passed down generations, continuing to perform and delight decades later. We're proud to carry on a tradition of exceptional New England furniture making.

  • An iconic design heritage

Some of the 20th century's most influential designers contributed to Heywood-Wakefield, including Leo Jiranek, Gilbert Rohde, Russell Wright, Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky, and W. Joseph Carr. Our pieces are iconic, instantly recognizable and an important part of the modern design movement in America.
