Shipping Policy
All new Heywood-Wakefield wood furniture ships from Massachusetts; all the upholstered ships from North Carolina. Many factors are involved in figuring the cost of shipping, and it is not always possible to get exact costs in advance. However you can get an approximate cost by contacting us.
Except for smaller items which can ship through FedEx Ground, we ship our furniture via common carrier. We use two very well-known and reputable carriers – ABF Freight System and R & L Carriers. Both have excellent service and reputations with us; we pick the most economical one for each shipment.
ABF accepts “freight collect” shipments, so when we ship with them you will pay them directly for the freight charges, upon delivery. R & L does not accept freight collect shipments; shipments must be “freight pre-paid”. However because they can be less expensive to some areas we choose them and absorb the extra paperwork involved, which means we bill the shipping charges to the credit card originally used for the purchase.
When the freight leaves our factory, we receive shipping documents that contain a tracking number known as a PRO number. We use this to ascertain the estimated time of arrival at the customer’s city, as well as the local phone number. Common carriers will not attempt a delivery until they have made contact with the customer and set up an appointment, so you will have control over when your freight arrives. We provide our customers with their PRO numbers and the carrier’s local phone number, so that our customers can contact the carrier and make their appointments. Also, when the freight leaves our factory, we send an e-mail to each customer detailing the manner in which to receive and inspect the freight. Both of the carriers we use have excellent records in delivering undamaged freight, but the e-mail does contain instructions on how to report damage to us in the unlikely event that it occurs.
For smaller items such as Record Cabinets, Mirrors, Night Stands, Small Tables, etc., we use FedEx Ground. In this case we provide a tracking number to our customers so that they will know the day of delivery, but there is no provision for scheduling an appointment. However for smaller items FedEx Ground is much less expensive that a common carrier.
In all cases we are ready and able to work with our customers to make sure shipments are sent at a convenient time. We will work around vacations, etc., so that freight is delivered only when the customer is ready to receive it.
