Vintage Heywood-Wakefield M 539 Encore Blanket Chests, produced only from 1952 to 1953, are akin to a holy grail for collectors today. They’re quite rare and—as would be expected—expensive.

Now you can own a new production of this classic item, true to the original except that it’s 3.5” taller. This provides more storage space, with today’s comforters made thicker than their 1950s counterparts. Also, it’s a comfortable seating height, and it props the mirror up higher (after all, Americans are, on average, taller today than in the mid-century years).

These are the details—perfectly blending form and function—that make any bedroom a place of true comfort. The item is also a perfect accent piece and storage unit to place at the end of hallways, especially with the attached mirror.

A Note About the Mirror:
We provide only the mirror frame and mounting kit, without the glass. You receive the 51.5” x 35.5” solid birch frame with Amber finish, a plywood backing panel attached with screws, two solid wood uprights measuring 66″ x 3.5″ x 7/8″ to attach the frame to the chest, and mounting screws.

The frame takes a 3/4” plate glass mirror. We can ship the frame to a glass shop of your choosing.

We do this to save you money. If we provided the glass, you wouldn’t only pay for it; you’d also pay the considerable costs of shipping a large glass item, including packaging and insurance costs. It also eliminates the concern of you receiving broken glass.
