Lead-Times and Shipping Rates
Two of the most common questions we receive are "How long does it take to receive the furniture we order?" and "What is the shipping cost to our home going to be?" In these days of Internet shopping, especially when dealing with large items such as mid-century furniture and mid-century area rugs, these are very relevant issues, and we will attempt to shed some light on both subjects.
LEAD-TIMES
Here it is important to bring forward several relevant points. All of our mid-century modern furniture is made-to-order; that is, each item is built only when when we have an order for it. When you place your order, we do our best to estimate where in the production cycle of a given item we are, and how long it will take to be built and shipped to you.
We maintain in inventory the component parts for most of our different items. When we receive an order for, say, an M 197 G Butterfly Dining Table, we begin by pulling the parts from inventory, and matching for wood color as closely as possible. Then we assemble the table, after which it is hand-shaped for the correct fitment of the components. When the table is complete, it is sent to the finishing room, where the finish is applied and then hand-rubbed. After a period of days to allow the finish to dry thoroughly, the item is packed and shipped.
We generally quote 6-8 weeks to fill orders, however this is often affected by a number of variables. For instance, the M 530 Q and M-530-EK StyleMaster beds are our fastest-selling products, because so many people are the owners of original mid-century Heywood-Wakefield bedroom sets, built at a time when queen and king beds were not offered. So we generally have those components in stock most of the time, and consequently can sometimes process and ship these orders a little quicker. However, it is important to remember that production schedules are set as far as six weeks out; orders are not generally begun the same day we receive them, and in very busy periods, it is sometimes not possible to build and ship furniture any faster than the quoted lead-time. We do encourage our customers to keep in mind that once received, a Heywood-Wakefield item is likely to last a life-time, so if we are sometimes a little slow we hope you will understand that it takes time to carefully manufacture this quality mid-century furniture, and that it will be worth the wait.
Regarding lead-times for mid-century area rugs, these are in stock most of the time and generally ship within a day or two of being ordered. Occasionally a particular rug might be temporarily out of stock in a given size or pattern, but some 90% of patterns and sizes are in stock virtually all the time. These are shipped via UPS, and shipping charges are calculated and supplied at the time of the order. Most of our mid-century area rugs ship from either Georgia or New York, so shipping charges are generally quite competitive.
SHIPPING RATES FOR FURNITURE
Smaller items such as night stands, cocktail tables, and the like can usually be shipped via Fedex Ground service, and are therefore relatively inexpensive to ship. At the time of your order, it is possible to get the costs, and this will be added to your invoice, as Fedex Ground charges must be pre-paid.
Larger items such as beds, dining tables and chairs, sofas, etc. are shipp-ed via common carrier, i.e., truck. ON our home page, under the tab labeled "shipping" there is a chart showing the weight and class of each of our items. There is also an 800 number, and information about the original point of shipping. By calling the 800 number and following the instructions, it is possible to get an approximate cost for shipping to your location. It is important to DIVIDE BY TWO the cost the recording provides, because this reflects the discount we receive from our carrier, which we pass along 100% to our customers. However this number will still be only an estimate as it is affected by several factors such as your location and dwelling type (i.e., single home, condo, etc). We re also happy to call our carrier and provide you with their freight quote should you wish us to do so.
